ANAHEIM -- The Angels on Wednesday agreed to terms on a 2009 contract with infielder Chone Figgins, thus avoiding arbitration. This announcement was made by general manager Tony Reagins. Per club policy, no terms of the contract will be released.
Figgins, 30 (turns 31 on Jan. 22), spent his seventh season with the Angels in 2008 and batted .276 (125-for-453) with one home run and 22 RBIs in 116 games. He logged a team-best 34 stolen bases to rank sixth in American League and reached 30 stolen bases for the fifth consecutive season, one of only four current players to do so (Ichiro Suzuki, Jimmy Rollins and Juan Pierre).
The Leary, Ga., native is the Angels' all-time stolen-base leader with 238. His 223 stolen bases since the start of the 2004 season are second most in AL to Carl Crawford (238).
