ANAHEIM, Calif. -- The Angels Tuesday selected 19 players on the first day of the 2005 Major League Baseball Free Agent Amateur Draft, in an announcement by Angels' Director of Scouting Eddie Bane. The draft lasted 18 rounds (the Angels had two picks in the second round) and will continue tomorrow (June 8).

As previously announced, the Angels, who did not have a first round pick due to the signing of free agent SS Orlando Cabrera, selected RHP Trevor Bell of Crescenta Valley High School in La Crescenta, CA with the 37th pick in the Compensation Round.

The Angels' first-day draft was highlighted by the selection of nine pitchers, four outfielders, five infielders and one catcher. A breakdown of the 19 players picked by the Angels includes three collegians, five community college player and 11 high school players.

The Angels selected four Southern California prep prospects, including three in their first four picks (RHP Bell, SS Ryan Mount of Ayala High School in Chino, and RHP Sean O'Sullivan of Valhalla HS in El Cajon).
