Coaching staff remains intact for 2010
Manager of Year Scioscia credits hard work of colleagues

ANAHEIM -- Mike Scioscia, selected as 2009 American League Manager of the Year by the Baseball Writers' Association of America on Wednesday, will have his entire coaching staff back in 2010.Scioscia will be joined when Spring Training opens in Tempe, Ariz., by bench coach Ron Roenicke, pitching coach Mike Butcher, third-base coach Dino Ebel, first-base coach Alfredo Griffin, hitting coach Mickey Hatcher, bullpen coach Orlando Mercado and bullpen catcher Steve Soliz.
Roenicke, Griffin and Hatcher, each returning for an 11th season with the Angels, have been with Scioscia every step of the way. Mercado has served in Anaheim for 16 years.
"One of the reasons I've been able to stay 10 years is all these parts that have been able to stay together," Scioscia said. "Look at our coaching staff, the continuity there. That means a lot. There are challenges every day, and we have a great staff."
Under Scioscia and his staff, the Angels are 900-720 for a .556 winning percentage, claiming American League West titles in five of the past six seasons. Owner Arte Moreno, who awarded Scioscia a 10-year extension last winter, obviously believes in keeping a good thing going.
