Bulger hopes to test arm Tuesday

Angels reliever battling biceps tendinitis as ALDS nears

10/04/09 9:00 PM EST

OAKLAND -- Angels reliever Jason Bulger had a cortisone injection for biceps tendinitis in his right arm on Sunday and hopes to be cleared to test his throwing arm during a workout on Tuesday at Angel Stadium.

Bulger, a stalwart in the bullpen with 64 appearances and 65 2/3 innings, going 6-1 with a 3.56 ERA, left Saturday's game after experiencing what he described as a twinge in the shoulder area.

The big right-hander hopes to be available when the American League Division Series against Boston unfolds on Wednesday or Thursday. The AL West champions three years running are taking Monday off.

"We'll let it calm down a couple days, and hopefully I'll get back out there and play catch on Tuesday," Bulger said. "I'll do everything I can to be ready, but I don't want to go out and throw with half an arm. You work all year to get here, you don't want to do anything that might hurt your team.

"I think I'll be all right, good to go."
