Angels bring back legend Carew

Hall of Famer rejoins Halos as executive representative

07/06/09 9:30 PM ET

ANAHEIM -- The Angels announced on Monday that Hall of Famer and former Angels great Rod Carew has rejoined the organization as an executive representative.

Carew will work on an as needed basis with the Halos' media relations, community relations and marketing and sponsorship departments. Carew will also assist management at the executive level.

"While Rod's accomplishments during his distinguished career have been well-documented, the difference he has made in our community and with youngsters, both in the United States and abroad, has been dynamic," said Angels president Dennis Kuhl. "We are looking forward to utilizing his services throughout the year."

Carew, a 1991 inductee into the Baseball Hall of Fame, played with the Angels from 1979-85 and was a member of the Angels' first two division-championship teams in '79 and '82. Carew was also the Angels' hitting instructor from 1992-99.

"It is great to be joining the Angels in an official capacity," Carew said. "This is home for me. I have worked hard over the years to give back to the community that has given me, and my family, so much. Now, working alongside the Angels I can do even more. Together we can have a positive influence on so many lives. I cannot wait to get started."
