Nerve problem shuts down Moseley
Halos righty leaves extended spring camp to undergo tests

SEATTLE -- Angels pitcher Dustin Moseley has been shut down from extended spring training and is back in the Los Angeles area, where he'll undergo tests to determine the severity of the nerve irritation in his neck that has affected his throwing arm, manager Mike Scioscia said on Tuesday. The right-hander, who started three games for the Angels before his right forearm flared up in Minneapolis on April 17 after he'd thrown three innings, was throwing off a mound in Arizona until about 10 days ago. "He felt OK but didn't bounce back the way he needed to," Scioscia said. "Right now, he's taking a little time off to get his stamina back to where it needs to be. It's been a slow recovery from his nerve [issue]. He'll have the tests done and see if there's something in there that hasn't been diagnosed." Moseley had pitched well in starts against the Red Sox and Athletics and compiled a 1-0 record with a 4.30 ERA in 14 2/3 innings. He has been a valuable middle reliever for the club while also serving as a spot starter the past three seasons. Nerve problems began creeping up on Moseley toward the end of the 2007 campaign, and he underwent surgery on Oct. 23 of that year to alleviate pressure on the right ulnar nerve in his arm. Angels team doctor Lewis Yocum helped out with that surgery and will likely be involved in the pitcher's upcoming tests. "It's been a tough time for Mose," Scioscia said.
